Position: 6th grade language arts and reading
Education: B.A. Education, Fort Lewis College,
M.A. Education: Curriculum and Instruction, Boise State University
Bio: My teaching career spans 19 years, three states, and two subject areas. My love of the environment drew me to science and education in college, and I began my first job teaching middle school life science. After completing my graduate degree with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction, my passion for reading and writing led me to language arts.
Encouraging students to think critically, write creatively, and express themselves in spoken word enlivens my days. I thrive on the energy and enthusiasm our middle school students bring to Powell. Their insights, perspectives, and smiles brighten my day.
“Inspired” writers abound in my classroom. Being the recipient of two technology grants this last year allowed me to merge technology, language arts skills, and student assessment. Wireless laptops, Smartboard, document cameras, Senteo clicker response system, and a remote writing slate allow students to access, analyze, and utilize the wealth of information at their fingertips, preparing them for 21st Century communication.
In our spare time, my family shares my love of nature and together we enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and organic gardening. If we are not reading, writing, or listening to the latest music around the house, we are outside soaking up the crisp Colorado air.
