 Welcome to Mrs. Blake's Website

With nine weeks under our belt, things have really started to move for Cluster 6-2!

In my reading class we have started reading our classroom novel, The Outsiders.  Set in an Oklahoma town during the 1960s, this book chronicles the coming of age of a young man from "the wrong side of the tracks."  S.E. Hinton, the author, uses wonderful literary techniques as she shows us the struggles the characters in the novel face as they try to live in a place that does not always support them.  We will focus on character development and setting as we read.  Completing the Reading Record will also be an expectation this nine weeks.  Our genre of focus is adventure survival/historical fiction.  A non-fiction book connected to their adventure survival/historical fiction book will also be required.

My science classes have begun to study the atmosphere, heat transfer and weather.  This unit of study will take us unti l Winter Break to complete.  Many hands on experiences help the students connect to this sometimes abstract area..

Social Studies has moved into our study of ancient civilizations.  We are currently studying the area around ancient Egypt as we move toward determining what the shared characteristics all civilizations are.
